After Jay's recommendation the creative team recently visited Sushi Airways for a first class flight on board the newest Sushi bar in town...delicious!

"The Design For Asia (DFA) Student Award has been paying tribute to the talents of the next generation of design professionals in Asia, for those who will ultimately take over where today's creative trailblazers leave off. This Award recognises an individual student or team of students in the region who achieve outstanding results by successfully harnessing the power of creative collaboration, and who recognise the need to reach across the boundaries between disciplines in order to give full play to innovative genius. The Award is organised by the Hong Kong Design Centre, with substantial support from Create Hong Kong, Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region." *

THE ART OF THE BRICK

A couple of the guys from the studio recently visited the ArtScience Museum here in Singapore to check out the latest exhibition...The Art of The Brick by Nathan Sawaya.

A rare exhibition using LEGO® bricks as sole medium seen for the first time in Southeast Asia. It is an amazing exhibition! And really does get your imagination going thinking about the huge amount of bricks that Nathan has used ... how did he count them all?

"Its fantastic to think this is 80,000+ bricks and took a whole summer to make .. that's crazy!." Jay

"This was made from donated bricks ... having this other level to the piece really makes it interesting" Pete

"I just thought this was amazing. Not really thinking the whole area was made out of bricks. Even the tiled floor is bricks. It almost feels like a digital world." Nick

The exhibition showcases 52 sculptures and is will be at the ArtScience Museum until 14th April 2013. If you get the chance we strongly recommend you go and take a look!

Jay visited new concept restaurant Sushi Airways last night...

"Climbing the short flight of metal plated stairs, lighted to resemble the boarding staircase to an aircraft, one is greeted on board by smiling friendly stewardesses. Designed and conceptualised by Singapore based OO Studio, Sushi Airways was made to closely resemble the legendary 1930s Douglas DC-3, an American fixed-wing propeller-driven chrome plated aircraft. Taking an unconventional design approach for a Japanese restaurant and bar, patrons will be surprised by actual aircraft gallery meal carts and storage boxes, overhead compartments, characteristic aircraft lighting and rounded panoramic aircraft-like windows overseeing Kampong Glam (super for people watching). Be home away from home as Sushi Airways take you away on this gastronomic journey." *

Sounds great! Well worth a visit!

SHARE THE CREATIVITY

Our first monthly "Share The Creativity" session hosted by Monique, Pete and Karen was a great success! We're looking forward to the next one where Ken, Yean and Juney will be presenting one of the current studio projects, some more inspiration and their own set of tips and hints!  

SHANGHAI BIENNALE 2012

Juney recently visited the Shanghai Biennale to take a look at the themed exhibition "Reactivation". 

"Large exhibitions such as the ones organized by Shanghai Biennale provide not only an important occasion to showcase of contemporary art production, but also forums where artists can meet, challenge their own works and expand their experiences. Besides, the biennale offers the opportunity of a truly international exchange of ideas; while bringing together artists, curators, writers, theorists and art supporters from around the world, the biennale has become a critical space of dialogue within an increasingly global art market. The Shanghai Biennale highlights the increasingly important role of artistic production in the Asia-Pacific region.

Based on the experience in operating the past biennales, the 9th Shanghai Biennale 2012 will continue its local experience to face the global situation and cultural attitudes. It insists on constructing different cultural imaginations. The 9th Shanghai Biennale will be the inaugural show for Shanghai Contemporary Art Museum housed in a restored industrial building that used to be a thermal power plant. This marks a new beginning for the Shanghai Biennale in its 16 years of history.

The 9th Shanghai Biennale will focus on resources and energy, while the curatorial team will study the energy of sites, memories, will, comprehension and, ultimately, the community" *
